Most people find it does not. Itch is mainly a function of fibre diameter, not of wool itself. Coarse wool above roughly 22 micron bends against the skin and triggers the prickle response. Our merino is ultrafine, under 17.5 micron, so the fibre flexes instead of pressing in. If a jumper has ever scratched you, that was a much coarser grade of wool. Merino regulates in both directions. It moves moisture as vapour before it becomes sweat on the skin, and it lets heat leave the knit rather than holding it. That is why merino is worn in desert heat as well as in the cold. In a warm bedroom a light merino set stays drier than cotton, because cotton absorbs sweat and holds it against you.

Cold or 30 degree wool cycle, inside out, with a wool safe pH neutral liquid detergent. No fabric softener. Dry flat in shade. Following the care protocol helps the Thermocline finish last. Xylitol is water soluble, so gentle cool cycles matter. Merino also resists odour on its own, so airing the set between wears replaces most washes.

Thermocline is the finish applied to the merino. Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol that draws heat as it dissolves. When moisture first appears on the skin, the xylitol in the finish reacts with it and pulls heat off the surface, so the fabric turns cool at the exact moment you start to warm up. As the skin dries, the reaction stops and the fabric settles.
